Wholemeal Pancakes!!

Today, we worked on measurement through making pancakes.

We had to double the recipe to get double the yumminess!  This required us to work with fractions and to be accurate with our measurements so that we got the best tasting result.

Our measuring skills were on point, but could work on the 'flipping the pancake' skill 🤔
We also wrote a procedural text (recipe) after making and eating ...

Paper chain challenge

The students were given ONE piece of A4 sheet of paper, a pair of scissor and a glue stick.  They were instructed to make the longest paper chains they could in 20 minutes.  Some planned for the first five to ten minutes. Some jumped straight in!!

The different ways of thinking and strategising were fun to watch...

Congratulations to Naadirah who made the longest chain at 2m74cm.

Measurement with paper planes

Room 20 loves making paper planes!  We used this interest to design and create our paper planes ✈️ in an attempt to be the one to fly it the furtherest.

We picked our sunny day and went out ready to fly.... We were equipped with metre rulers to measure our distances and a determined attitude.

Before our flight, we had learned about converting between mm, cm and m.  When, we went out we were able to discuss this and convert our recorded flights in mm, cm and m, all while having fun!

Congratulations to Kaitlin who's plane flew a distance of 12m, 1200 cm, 12,000mm and to Winter who's plane flew 18m, 1800cm, 18000mm!

Vector Education programme

Image result for vector education programmeRoom 20 has learnt a whole lot about energy and how we use it in New Zealand.  They had a chance to play with cars and wind turbines generated by solar power.  They each received these booklets to fill in and a pencil made out of recycled newspaper.

Reflection:  We were inspired to make small changes in the classroom and our homes to save power, reduce our carbon footprint and overall make our planet a little bit better each day!
